JOB SUMMARY
The packages receiving clerk collaborates with the Packages Department team to execute the receiving, tracking, delivery and distribution of packages received in Gerlach and Black Rock City.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada and Gerlach, NV running from August to September, 2025.
The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on April 18th, 2025.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Package Receiving (25%)
- Validate packages as they are delivered by UPS, FedEx and independent shippers before accepting/signing for delivery to ensure they belong to staff, departments, or approved recipients.
- Receive mail and packages at the Gerlach Office and Packaging container during the event and pick up mail and packages from the Gerlach Post Office.
- Work closely with the Purchasing department to ensure that packages are sorted to the appropriate department.
Package Tracking (15%)
- Sort and determine that the packages received are marked and stored appropriately.
- Enter in package data for tracking purposes.
- Label the package with identifying information from the Package Tracking Log.
- Update Package Tracking Log once the package has been delivered/received.
- Identify and ensure that any discrepancies between the packages received and the log are appropriately dealt with in a timely manner.
Package Delivery (35%)
- Drive a manual transmission box truck
- Load and unload trucks with large quantities of cargo weighing up to 70 lbs each safely and carefully.
- Transportation of packages from the delivery site in Gerlach to Packages container in Black Rock City.
- Deliver packages only to authorized locations or recipients.
Logistical Assistance (15%)
- Assist with the move of the Packaging Department between Gerlach, Black Rock City, and Black Rock Station.
- Communicate duty related supply needs to the Packages Department Manager promptly.
- Communicate with the Packages Manager to ensure the inventory of operational supplies and the tools/vehicles to operate the Package department is sufficient at all times.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%)
- Log in and log out using our payroll software to ensure accurate work records.
- Maintain an organized and tidy work area, including the Packages Department container, trucks, and affiliated areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
- Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
- Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
- Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
- Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work in Gerlach and the Burning Man Event in Nevada.
- Punctual and present work throughout the Burning Man event week.
- Knowledge of office machine use.
- Able to take direction and foster a cooperative work environment.
- Personal integrity; able to uphold a high standard of confidentiality.
- Open to change and to a variety of daily tasks.
- A respectful and polite demeanor; able to provide services with care and receive inquiries with patience and graciousness.
- Establish and maintain a clean and safe worksite while utilizing the necessary OSHA approved safety equipment.
- The physical ability to move, lift, and carry large objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Experience with driving a manual transmission vehicle, preferably a box truck.
PREFERRED
- It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
- Familiarity with Google Suite, specifically Google Sheets.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $_15.00____to $_16.00____ per hour.

- Off-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature
