BRC Storage Volunteer
Black Rock City (BRC) Storage helps hundreds of Theme Camps minimize their carbon footprint, reallocate resources to art and communal offerings, and reduce trucking to Black Rock City. The BRC Storage Team often collaborates with the Placement team. At the end of the day, all teams are here for the same reason: to build Black Rock City. We seek volunteers with a passion for collaborating and supporting our partner teams.
During Burning Man, we will provide you space in our staff camp to pitch a tent or park a trailer, three meals a day from our wonderful commissary, and daily showers. After Burning Man, we will provide housing or a space for you to park your trailer and power as well as 3 meals a day from the NVO Kitchen. You will also receive a staff credential/ticket to Burning Man as a thank you for your time and energy!
Dates and time frame of role:
- We need volunteers who can be available before, during, or after the event.
- Before Burning Man — local 40+ hrs per week beginning on July 27, 2026.
- During Burning Man — not applicable - your last day is August 23, 2026.
Must-have talents***
- A deep love for theme camps and mutant vehicles
- A commitment to reducing Burning Man’s impact on the environment
- The ability to both ask for and receive help
- You’ll need to be able to read and understand ‘hand-drawn’ maps
- Familiarity with 2-way radios or eagerness to become familiar
- Always driving safely. Always.
- Spatial awareness
- This is a mentally & physically demanding role that requires being able to lift 30 pounds, endure extreme heat & scorching sunlight, and become one with the dust
- Be ready to camp on the Playa for a month!
Nice-to-have talents ***
- Previously attended Burning Man and familiar with its culture.
- Smooth operator and comfortable with small talk
- Being comfortable with counter-culture
List of potential tasks ***
- Driving crew to theme camps for surveying/flagging and camp evaluations
- Keeping fleet vehicles secure while crew follow-up with Storage participants
- Stocking fleet vehicles with proper gear and supplies at the beginning of each shift
- Fueling staff vehicles at both the beginning and end of each shift
- Putting gear and supplies away at the end of each shift
- Being open to all sorts of tasks that pop-up unexpectedly
- Assisting with three-point survey equipment
- Assisting with security banding and tracking
