2026 Burning Man IT Network Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

Like any midsize town Black Rock City has extensive network infrastructure connecting everyone from departmental staff to first responders. Burning Man IT  is assembling a fast moving, dedicated network specific team to assist in the deployment of the Black Rock City network for Burning Man 2026.

 

This is a temporary, full-time, Exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August 8, 2026 to September 11, 2026.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Members of the Burning Man IT BRC Network team will work full time directly under a career network engineer to assist in connecting numerous departments and operations in Black Rock City ranging from Airport to Gate to Emergency Services. Applicants don’t need to be career network engineers or technicians but must possess general technical and mechanical inclination, including strong computer competencies. Applicants should be comfortable and competent using tools, ladders, and take naturally to technical concepts. Specific skills, training, and tools required for the position will be provided by BMIT. Willingness to work on-call shifts and non-traditional hours is required.

Daily tasks include:

  • Physical placement of network infrastructure such as wifi access points, backhaul data radios, network switches, and more
  • Exterior and interior network cabling installation
  • Speaking to and engaging with other city departments with kindness, confidence, and professionalism
  • Assisting in network device preparation and configuration
  • Removing network equipment in a safe and gentle fashion at end of event
  • Providing ongoing support for trouble calls throughout the event via rotating on-call and on-duty shifts



QUALIFICATIONS

 

REQUIRED

  • Ability to work prolonged periods in an outdoor setting
  • Comfort using ladders, hand tools, and power tools
  • Willingness to get the job done despite delays, challenges, or unusual work schedules
  • General computer competency.
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to adjust schedule seasonally to work in a remote location in Nevada
  • Positive Attitude 
 

 

PREFERRED

  • Prior burning man attendees / familiarity with burning man culture
  • Knowledge of computer concepts and good operating system level capabilities
  • Network specific skill sets such as terminating network cable, understanding of IP route tables, or experience with wireless network equipment
  • Candidates are strongly encouraged to bring their own housing (RV or trailer) to the job site. Service will be provided.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

 
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
 

 

COMPENSATION: 

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $1000 to $1200 per week.



 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 
  • Off-playa:  Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required.
  • On-playa:  This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding, and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
