NVO Volunteer - Staff Camp Support Assistant

NVO Staff Camp is a shared home base for people supporting operations. Join the team behind the curtain to help build a safe, welcoming camp, keep shared systems moving, and help residents focus on their primary work. We will provide you space in our staff camp to pitch a tent or park a trailer, three meals a day from our wonderful commissary, and daily showers.

 

Date and time frame of role

Before Event - 8/10-8/29 through camp move-in; up to 35 hours per week, including full-day availability for scheduled survey, build, and move-in days.

During Event - 8/30-9/7 up to 35 hours, including a mix of on-site support and scheduled on-call coverage shared between the team.

After Event - 9/8-9/19 up to 35 per week through strike, inventory, returns, and final MOOP.

 

Must-have talents*

  • Reliable and able to follow through without constant supervision
  • Comfortable communicating respectfully with residents and other BMP staff
  • Flexible when schedules, priorities, or conditions change
  • Willing to participate in outdoor, physical camp work while using required PPE and asking for help when a task exceeds their training or ability
  • Able to learn basic camp systems, radio practices, and hand/power tool safety
  • Committed to Leave No Trace, shared responsibility, and clear escalation of safety or operational issues

Nice-to-have talents*

  • Experience with camp, event, construction, or logistics support
  • Familiarity with NVO/Burning Man culture and playa conditions
  • Experience with survey/layout, shade, fencing, or temporary infrastructure
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace, shared calendars, checklists, or tracking sheets

  • Help bring NVO Staff Camp to life through survey, setup, and strike activities
  • Pitch in with camp projects
  • Help keep camp welcoming by supporting shared spaces, communications, and community initiatives
  • Jump in wherever an extra set of hands can make camp life easier for staff
